My Life Story, My Experiences and My Ideas
My name is Mark Robert Dalzell.
This is my story.
It is a story about my childhood, my education, football, England, New Zealand, difficult experiences, and eventually, the many ideas and inventions that I have developed throughout my life.
I want people to understand not only my ideas, but also the experiences that helped shape the person I became.
My Early Years and Family
One of the experiences that affected me deeply was seeing my father suffer from bowel cancer.
I remember coming home from high school and seeing him losing his hair because of chemotherapy.
At that age, I was young, and I did not receive much counselling or support at school to help me understand what was happening.
Those experiences stayed with me.
They became part of my life story and influenced the way I thought about people, education, health, support and the problems that people face.
My Education
I studied at Auckland College of Education.
I began there in the mid-1990s and graduated in 1996 with a Diploma of Teaching.
During those years, I had many experiences that were part of growing up.
I met people, made friends, experienced relationships and dealt with situations that were sometimes difficult and confusing.
Some events affected me emotionally for many years afterwards.
I also experienced rumours about me that I say were untrue.
At one point, I responded to difficult experiences by turning to alcohol and cannabis.
Looking back, I can see that many different experiences were happening in my life at the same time.
Football
Football has always been a major part of my life.
I am naturally both right- and left-footed.
I played in different positions and continued playing football while living in England.
In 1999, I played Sunday League football in Kent, and I was also scouted in connection with Arsenal.
Football was something I took seriously.
During my time in England, I trained extremely hard.
After work, I would sometimes run from Morden to South Wimbledon, do weights, swim, take the bus home and have a good meal.
At my peak, I was also playing indoor football on Friday nights, indoor football on Saturday mornings, Saturday eleven-a-side football, and Sunday eleven-a-side football.
Football was a huge part of my life.
Auckland, 2002
In 2002, I was in Auckland.
After a number of trials, I completed a 13-kilometre run, which was the longest run I had ever done at that time.
I also trialled with Central United FC.
In two pre-season games, I scored two goals while playing at right fullback.
I was not signed.
Many years later, in January 2023, I contacted the person involved and asked why I had not been signed.
The response I received was:
“I wanted to, but I knew we didn’t have enough in the budget for a player of your quality.”
That answer meant a lot to me because I had waited around 21 years to ask that question.
It gave me another perspective on something I had wondered about for a very long time.
Difficult Experiences
My life has also included some very difficult experiences.
I have spoken about childhood sexual abuse, difficult experiences with other people, problems with alcohol and drugs, and experiences within mental-health services.
I have also described situations where I felt that I was treated unfairly or misunderstood.
There were occasions when I felt that people made assumptions about me rather than understanding my circumstances.
I was also told different things about my mental health, and I have questioned some of those experiences and diagnoses.
I am sharing these experiences as part of my personal story.
I am not presenting my personal experience as medical advice, and I cannot prove every interpretation of what happened.
What I can say is that these experiences had a significant impact on how I saw the world and on how I thought about helping people.
My Ideas
Despite everything that happened, I continued creating ideas.
I have always enjoyed thinking about new ways of doing things.
Some of my ideas are connected to education.
Others are connected to transport, technology, communication, entertainment, children, health, social connection and everyday life.
One example is Nivsta Boards.
I developed games and activities intended for children, including ideas that could be used in primary schools.
I contacted many New Zealand primary schools and offered the idea without initially looking to make money from it.
I also provided rules and information explaining how the games could be played.
The response was very limited, including one negative response.
But I continued developing ideas.
PIOW — Pass It On Watch
Another major idea is PIOW — the Pass It On Watch.
The concept is based around people connecting with others who have shared experiences or interests.
The idea is about creating social connections and helping people meet others in a simple and low-pressure way.
I believe concepts like this deserve to be explained clearly and explored properly before anyone can determine their full potential.
NIVSTA Transport
Another major area of my ideas is NIVSTA Transport.
The concept includes different forms of transport, including vehicles, vans, scooters and other transport ideas.
I have also considered ways that people could use transport time productively, including charging mobile phones and laptops.
There are many parts to the NIVSTA concept, and some of them would require significant technical, financial, safety and transport-industry development before they could become real-world products or services.
But the ideas are part of my vision.
My Other Ideas
Over the years, I have created many other concepts.
These include education games, mobile applications, children's products, transport concepts, social ideas, technology concepts, business ideas, cafés, franchises and other inventions.
My website contains many of these ideas and concepts.
Some are simple ideas.
Some are much larger projects.
Some may require technology that is not yet available in the form I imagine.
And some would need engineers, developers, designers, investors or other specialists to determine how they could be developed.
That is why I want my ideas to be looked at properly.
I am not saying that every idea is already a finished product.
I am saying that these are concepts I have developed and that I believe deserve to be understood before people decide what is or is not possible.
Why I Am Telling This Story
This story is not only about inventions.
It is about my life.
It is about the experiences I have had, the difficulties I have faced, the things I have learned, and the ideas that came from those experiences.
Football taught me persistence.
Education gave me an interest in helping children and learning.
Difficult experiences made me think about people who may feel isolated or misunderstood.
And my imagination gave me the motivation to keep creating new ideas.
I have had setbacks.
I have heard people say no.
I have had ideas rejected.
But I continued.
My Hope for the Future
What I want now is for people to read my story carefully and understand the ideas properly.
I would like people with the appropriate professional knowledge to examine the different concepts and tell me what could realistically be developed, what would need modification, and what would require further research or testing.
I do not expect one person to be able to develop everything.
Some ideas may need engineers.
Some may need software developers.
Some may need education specialists.
Some may need transport experts.
Some may need investors and business specialists.
That is part of the journey.
My goal is to put my ideas forward clearly and give them an opportunity to be understood.
This is my story.
It includes football, education, family, difficult experiences, setbacks, creativity and many ideas for the future.
I have continued to believe in creating something that could be useful to other people.
The St. Francis Prayer
Page 99, Twelve Steps and Twelve traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous
Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, 1 may bring the spirit of forgiveness; that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.
ADDICTION, RECOVERY, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AND SUPERINTELLIGENCE (SI)
PART ONE: ADDICTION AND RECOVERY
1. Recovery, Support, and Well-Being
Recovery involves attention to different aspects of one's well-being, including medication when appropriate, sleep, meditation, and support from others.
The original notes mention Wet Brain Syndrome (WBS), Dry Brain Syndrome (DBS), and Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS). They also refer to experiences sometimes described as “dry drunk” symptoms.
People experiencing difficulties during recovery may sometimes behave in ways that others find confusing or erratic. The notes emphasize the importance of understanding these experiences in the context of recovery rather than immediately assuming that a person has a chronic brain condition.
2. Meetings and Support from Others
Attending meetings and maintaining contact with other members are important themes in the original notes. Communication may take place through a meeting, a text message, a phone call, or a face-to-face conversation.
The notes also emphasize meditation and getting enough sleep as part of paying attention to one's well-being.
3. Working with a Sponsor and the Twelve Steps
For guidance on the AA Twelve Steps, a sponsor is an important source of support within the program.
The original notes refer to working with one's sponsor, Diary Step 12, and writing thoughts on paper or typing an email to oneself. These activities can provide ways to record personal experiences and reflect on one's progress.
4. Sharing a Spiritual Awakening
The notes emphasize sharing one's spiritual awakening with others. This may be done during a meeting, through a text message or phone call, or in a face-to-face conversation with another member.
Sharing personal experiences can be a way to communicate with others and express what one has learned through recovery.
The original material distinguishes between support through AA and a sponsor and professional help for broader mental health concerns.
For mental health issues or a clinical diagnosis, a clinical psychologist or another appropriately licensed mental health professional may be needed.
Some people use both forms of support: attending AA meetings and working through the steps with a sponsor while also consulting a mental health professional about underlying trauma or other mental health concerns.
PART TWO: EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EQ) AND INTELLECTUAL INTELLIGENCE (IQ)
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Intellectual Intelligence (IQ) represent two different ways the human brain processes information and interacts with the world.
The primary difference is that IQ measures the ability to process logic and facts, while EQ relates to the ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions.
The original notes connect this subject with “Tradition 3” and “Chapter 5: How It Works.” These references are retained here as part of the source material.
PART THREE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
1. What Is Artificial Intelligence?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad term for computer systems that perform tasks associated with human intelligence.
Examples mentioned in the original notes include ChatGPT, Siri, and recommendation algorithms. These are examples of AI systems designed to perform particular tasks.
2. Narrow AI
Today's AI systems are commonly described in the supplied material as “Narrow AI.” They are designed for specific tasks rather than for general reasoning across every field.
ChatGPT, Siri, and recommendation algorithms are among the examples mentioned in the original notes.
3. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) refers to a proposed form of machine intelligence that could demonstrate human-like adaptability and reasoning across multiple fields.
The original material describes AGI as still in development.
PART FOUR: SUPERINTELLIGENCE (SI) AND ARTIFICIAL SUPERINTELLIGENCE (ASI)
1. What Is Superintelligence?
Superintelligence is a hypothetical future level of machine intelligence that would surpass human cognitive abilities across all domains.
The original notes also use the term Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) to describe a theoretical form of AI that exceeds human cognitive capabilities across all domains.
2. Current AI and Future Superintelligence
There is an important distinction in the original material between current AI systems and theoretical superintelligence.
Current AI systems are described as being designed for particular tasks, whereas superintelligence refers to a hypothetical future capability that would greatly exceed human intelligence across a broad range of domains.
The supplied notes also raise the possibility of future systems demonstrating independent reasoning, self-awareness, and the ability to develop new concepts or make scientific breakthroughs beyond human comprehension. These are presented as theoretical possibilities, not as established capabilities of today's AI systems.
3. The Use of the Term “Super Intelligence”
The original screenshots discuss the use of “super intelligence” (SI) instead of “artificial intelligence” (AI) in U.S. government communications. They refer to the White House and Reuters in connection with this subject.
The central point of this section is the distinction between changing the terminology used to describe AI and actually developing machine intelligence that surpasses human cognitive abilities.
A change in terminology alone does not establish that current AI systems have achieved superintelligence.
CONCLUSION
This material brings together Marky's reflections on addiction and recovery, emotional and intellectual intelligence, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of future superintelligence.
And that is why I continue to share my story and my ideas.
